New Virus Adopting Stealth Strategy - Adware and Trojans PDF Print E-mail

Symantec Corp. has seen a dramatic decrease in network-damaging viruses over the last year and an increase in less destructive Trojans or Adware that quietly embed themselves into a PC. Such viruses typically scour computers for personal data, such as social security numbers emails, and passwords, and then send the information to a clandestine server, Dave Cole, director of product management for the Symantec Security Response Center, said. The data is usually sold on the black market to criminals looking to use the information to obtain credit cards or raid bank accounts. The quiet Trojans are also used to host web sites in the infected machines, send spam or take part in denial of service attacks. In the past, Adware was distributed primarily by luring PC users to a website, which downloaded the software. Virus writers, however, are now getting more creative in distributing the malicious software in order to make more money, experts say. A word of advice, do not visit websites or download anything from the websites you do not trust, specially the one with popups. Download and install Alexa and Google toolbars which come will popup blocker. Installing the Norton Antivirus is a must. With the combination toolbars and Norton Antivirus, you will be protected for the most of the time. But remember for one to avoid getting burn is not to start a fire.

Sony said in May it would release the PS3 next year, complete with a graphics chip with 300 million transistors. That means the console will have more processing power than Microsoft's Xbox, Nintendo's Game Cube and the PlayStation 2 combined. Sony's alliance with Epic Games gives it sub-licensing rights of Unreal Engine 3, a complete games development framework that includes a programmable shaders tool, physics engine and GUI-based physics attribution tool. "We're very happy to have a strategic licensing agreement with Epic Games," said Masa Chatani, corporate executive and CTO of Sony Computer Entertainment. "The power of Unreal Engine 3 demonstrated at E3 was so highly received. By providing the outstanding content development technology of Unreal Engine 3 for the PS3 developer community, we believe that many high quality content maximizing the power of PS3 will become available."

SQL Injection is an application security hole. It happens when an application uses a string passed by user in SQL statement. Usually, string is passed to web server through HTTP request. For example: String str = request.getParameter("name"); String sqlStr = "select * from account where id=1 and name= "+str; sqlStr could be "select * from account where id=1 and name = kevin"; sqlStr could be "select * from account where id=1 and name = kevin or id = 2";

XFX, one of the first companies out the door with a video card based on the GeForce 7800 GTX, adds its own panache to the product to set its GeForce 7800 GTX card apart from the rest. Of course, at nearly $600, the XFX GeForce 7800 GTX doesn't come cheap, but you aren't exactly going to find any budget GeForce 7800 GTXs anytime soon. The Good: The XFX GeForce 7800 GTX arrives with a 450MHz core and 1.25GHz memory, which is slightly faster than normal. The Bad: As far as software bundles go, it can't get much weaker. Most of the programs are either trialware or demoware. The Bottom Line: If you want to game, XFX's GeForce 7800 GTX provides excellent performance at a steep price. Click here for a full review.

Years later, it's easy for a cynic to dismiss Diablo as nothing but a mindless clickfest. Click to move, click to attack, and click to open chests. Click, click, click, click, click. If you walked into any PC owner's room in the mid to late 1990s and heard the rapid-fire staccato of a mouse button, you could reasonably bet that the occupant was playing Diablo. Despite the naysayers, what can't be denied is Diablo's wide-ranging impact on the gaming industry. The game birthed the action-RPG genre as we know it, spawning dozens of copycats on the PC in the years following its release. Consoles even began to get into the act with Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance, which was very heavily influenced by Diablo. To this day, Diablo is used as a point of comparison for any game that involves simple point-and-click combat, character development, hordes of monsters, massive levels, and collectible loot and equipment. Battlefield 2 is a FPS online multiplay game over the popular Battlefield 1942. Battlefield 2 is a thrilling testament to how great PC gaming can be. It packs unmatched gameplay, impressive visuals, and endless replayability in one exquisite package. And it's, by far, the most fun that we've had with a PC game this year. The only downside is the removal of BOTs in MP. Visit the official site.

Dungeon Siege II, the sequel to 2002's hit action role-playing game, is due to ship to stores next month. When it does, it looks to build upon its predecessor with a vastly enhanced graphics engine, as well as deeper role-playing features. However, at its heart, it's very much a fast-paced, hack-and-slash action game that will task you with creating a character with which you will plow through hundreds and thousands of evil creatures in order to save the fantastical world of Aranna. With the game all but done at this point, we caught up with executive producer Bartosz Kijanka for some final thoughts on Dungeon Siege II. Click here for the official site of Dungeon Siege II

While it's tempting to compare Guild Wars to any number of other fantasy-themed role-playing games, there's really never been anything quite like it before. It innovatively and successfully combines many of the best, most addictive properties of action RPGs, online RPGs, and competitive multiplayer games in one beautifully produced package, which offers a tremendous lasting value yet none of the monthly fees typically associated with online-only games. The first title from developer ArenaNet, Guild Wars threatens the entire online RPG establishment with its bold design. More importantly, it's a very impressive game that's rewarding on many different levels and can be tremendously appealing for any number of reasons.
