The 2005 vehicles?including pickups, vans and SUVs?that lead their classes for the most efficient fuel consumption, according to U.S. Environmental Protection Agency data. A high-tech two-seater such as the Honda Insight is bound to lead all other vehicles in fuel economy for the 2005 model year. With a lightweight, small body, and an innovative hybrid gasoline-electric powertrain, Insight is rated at an impressive 66 miles per gallon on the highway and 61 mpg in the city. What if you can't possibly squeeze your family and all its transportation needs into a two-seat car? There are still plenty of economical choices. The best minivan for the 2005 model year in the category is the Honda Odyssey. The front-drive van is rated 20 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway. The Odyssey is redesigned for 2005 and can be had with a 3.5-liter 255-horsepower i-VTEC V6 with variable cylinder management. When driving conditions permit, the system automatically deactivates three of the six cylinders in order to maximize fuel economy. This tops the fuel economy of the 2004 Odyssey, which was rated at 18/25 mpg as well as the 2005 Dodge Caravan with 2.4-liter 150-horsepower 4-cylinder engine. If a midsize station wagon is more your family's style, the Volkswagen Passat Wagon is best in fuel use, according to the government. With a 2.0-liter 134-horsepower 4-cylinder turbodiesel, the Passat Wagon is rated at 27mpg in the city and 38 mpg on the highway. Share Link:
