Killzone 3: the art of the gun, and why the words are meaningless

We tend to wring our hands about what happens between the bullets, worrying about the quality of what these virtual people say and the ability of their voice actors to say it. Shouldn't we be watching movies if that's what we want? A war game should put the player on a tightrope and make them feel like the soldiers they control are in the middle of something much larger. In gaming, it should be the time we spend with the controller in our hands that gives the speeches meaning, not the other way around.

Sony sent a preview disc of Killzone 3 weeks ago, and I'm finally getting a chance to play it, and boy have I played it. With the Move. With a standard controller. While enjoying the action. While getting annoyed at the too-frequent cut scenes. This is a war game meant as a commercial for a gaming system, and in that respect it shines.
